This is really making my brain work... there are so many things mentioned here that I’ve never even thought about, specifically looking for a job fresh out of school during the pandemonium.
I’m not sure what kind of work you’re looking for, but I wish you all the good luck there is to offer you!!! <3 (PS. Recently I asked chat got what I should be looking for based on my interests and degree and got some words I’d never even considered before. I put them into Indeed, which led me to a posting I would have never thought to look for on my own. I applied and we’re still waiting, but doing something like that might give a fresh take on where to look -- if you haven’t done that already, of course)
You are an amazing writer! Have you read anything anti-work? I feel like you are leaning into it as you progress along your career journey and I totally get it (unless I'm reading the room wrong, lol).
thank you so much graham :,) that means so much for you to say. and omg, i’ve been reading “work won’t love you back”by sarah jaffe for the past year. def recommend!
Your actual language and turns of phrase about the job market and the hunt are so spot on. It was nearly impossible to narrow down which part I wanted to quote in my note.
I wish you luck. I feel the exact same way as you and I guess we just have to assume that the liberation is in the realization, not necessarily in things actually changing? Which is depressing but I guess we retain our power. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
From the other side of the hunt after a multiple year press, I can honestly say—keep pressing towards your mark. It may not be easy and may seem bleak, but I promise, you will get to the other side of the hunt if you keep moving forward.
I wish you all the luck!!! As a fellow recent grad, all of *this* feels incredibly daunting, but it is sort of comforting to know that we're all in this together. I really liked that you discussed luck in relation to the job market because honestly that seems to be the key to it all. I also love that you wrote about no longer dreaming of a career, but you dream of what you do outside of your work. That, I think, is where we're all headed, and it's for the better.
I hope that we never check our emails first-thing in the morning and feel the same disappointment about not getting an email as we do about not getting a text back after a great date.
thank you sooo much for your thoughts and well wishes <3 it's absolutely comforting knowing we're in this together (although i don't wish this on my worst enemy). and i'm going to try my best not to check my emails first thing....starting next week

Idk anything except this is good writing.
najah, thank you so much for your words ❤️ you’ve given me food for thought with “liberation is in the realization.”
i definitely hope our collective realization becomes a seed for change—even if the change comes beyond our lifetime.
thank you again for reading; it means a lot to engage w your thoughts through this piece
